Estevan is a town of around 10,084 people in the southeastern corner of Saskatchewan on Highway 39, on the banks of the Souris River. Much of the local economy is based on oil and gas, coal mining, and power generation.

During the warm summer days, tourism in Estevan comes alive. While visitors pick up information at the Tourism Information Booth on Highway 39, they can also take in the neighboring Souris Valley Museum which displays artifacts dating up to the 1940's, including a 1908 schoolhouse, a homestead shack and a vehicle display. The Heritage Mining Equipment Display is also at the Booth site and exhibits four pieces of large machinery from the nearby old Costello mine site, including a locomotive. Visitors can also take Tourism sponsored free guided tours of the area's coal mines and power plants.

In town, the Estevan Art Gallery & Museum displays artistic, cultural and heritage pieces including a North West Mounted Police barracks. The Souris Valley Theatre offers professional live theatre during the summer months. Also during the summer, the Estevan Motor Speedway offers stock car racing at its 3/8 mile high banked oval dirt track. As well, the Estevan Exhibition Association hosts an annual Fair in June and a Rodeo in July.
