Melfort is a city of about 5,192 people living 95 km (59.0 mi.) southeast of Prince Albert. Currently mostly a service centre, Melfort is located near the world''s largest diamond find and mine construction is expected to begin in 2009.

The Melfort & District Museum''s archives date back to the early 1880''s. As well, the Museum has a Pioneer Village, local fine arts, and a vintage agricultural display. The new Northern Lights Palace is an indoor recreational centre with waterslide and wave pool, and an arena that supports lacrosse in summer and hockey in winter. The Melfort and District Regional Park nearby offers a picnic area and a golf course. For more outdoors fun, the Kinsmen Centenary Park and Trail is a 3.6 km (2.2 mi.) nature and walking trail.

The Kinsmen Outdoor Arena offers a skating rink in winter and a skateboard park in summer. A trout pond which offers fishing opportunities is located to the west of Melfort on Highway 41A. The Wapiti Regional Park Ski Area about 47 km (29.2 mi.) north of town offers 8 downhill skiing slopes and about 25 acres of cross country skiing areas in winter, and in summer offers campsites with boat launches and fishing. Anytime of year, look skywards at night because the aurora borealis can be seen on many nights in the Melfort area.
