The town of Nipawin is located in east-central Saskatchewan between Tobin Lake and Codette Lake, two lakes created by dams. Home to around 5,100 people, Nipawin is 141 km (87.6 mi.) east of Prince Albert where Highways 55 and 35 meet. An increasingly popular resort area, Nipawin's economy is based on tourism as well as agriculture and lumber.
Nipawin's riverfront offers some of the best Walleye and Northern Pike fishing in North America. The residents celebrate by hosting several annual fishing tournaments, for example the "Fish for Freedom" ladies only tournament, the "Premier's Walleye Cup", the $150,000 "Vanity Cup" and the summer-long Great Northern Pike Festival. These attract people from around North America. Nipawin's lake area also offers boating and camping. Golfing is available at the highly ranked Evergreen Golf Club. Camping and RV sites are available alongside hiking trails and a volleyball court at nearby Nipawin and District Regional Park.
Wapiti Valley Regional Park offers cabin accommodation, and more fishing. In wintertime the Parks are popular for cross country skiing, and offer choices between downhill ski runs at Wapity Valley or many kilometers of snowmobile trails on part of the Trans Canada Snowmobile Trail at Wapiti Valley. The Nipawin area celebrates several festivals during the year, including summer concerts at Smit's Beach on Codette Lake, and the Nipawin Lion's Club's Hallowe'en "Spookarama Dance".
