Lumsden is nestled 31 km (19.3 mi.) northwest of Regina, in the Qu'Appelle Valley of south central Saskatchewan. Partly considered a suburb of Regina, the town of 1,581 people also has an economy based on tourism and being a service community.

Lumsden was selected as the "prettiest" town in Saskatchewan in 2003 by Harrowsmith Magazine. The Letterbox Gallery features works by Saskatchewan artists, many of whom capture the natural beauty of the Qu'Appelle Valley area. The Lumsden Museum features several historic buildings including a 1910 home, a Blacksmith Shop, Livery stable, and historic schoolhouse. More attractions are in the neighboring countryside, including Griffith's Petting Zoo.

The Craven World Campground offers full service sites. The Beaver Creek Ranch & Horse Center is perched on 200 acres and offers ranch vacations, "cowboy sampler" BBQ's, and hay/sleigh group rides. The Trans Canada Trail runs through Lumsden, and the town helped establish over 20 km (12.4 mi.) of the Trail nearby. Lumsden has gained publicity over the last few years through their Lumsden Duck Derby fundraising event, in which up to 25,000 numbered plastic ducks are dropped into the Qu'Appelle River that passes through town and the first 20 ducks that cross a finish line win prizes for their sponsors.
