Gravelbourg Saskatchewan Travel Information
Measuring a staggering 225 km (140 mi.) long, Lake Diefenbaker is the largest body of freshwater in southern Saskatchewan. Formed in 1967 when Gardiner Dam was constructed on the South Saskatchewan River, the lake is a premier recreational destination for people near and far. Golfing, boating, fishing and sailing are just some of the activities available to visitors. The lake is bordered by three major parks, including Saskatchewan Landing Park with it's rugged hills, Danielson Provincial Park, and Douglas Provincial Park- with both lush aspen forests and rugged sand dunes in its confines.
The nearby town of Gravelbourg is known as the 'little piece of Europe on the prairies', because of its historic architecture and multicultural heritage. Be sure to stop by Our Lady of Assumption Co-cathedral, where impressively detailed frescoes depict old and new-testament scenes.
