Christopher Lake Weather

The name Christopher Lake is used for both a village and a popular lake about 40 km (24.9 mi.) north of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The village is home to about 230 people, and much of the local economy is lake-related tourism.

Christopher Lake is in Saskatchewan's Lakeland area, and much of the surrounding area is natural. Even the local St. Christopher's Anglican Church was built using logs in 1933. The Lakeland area includes Christopher Lake, Emma Lake, and Anglin Lake. All three lakes offer recreational activities, such as fishing for walleye, perch, and northern pike. Emma Lake, about 5 km (3.1 mi.) west of Christopher Lake, and Anglin Lake have campgrounds, beaches with swimming areas, and boat launches. Summer activities also include hiking on trails that turn into cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails in wintertime.

Nearby the lakes is Prince Albert National Park which offers nature enthusiasts an up close experience with northern boreal forest. The Park is home to the only fully protected white pelican nesting colony in Canada, and to a herd of free ranging plains bison. Grey Owl, Canada's first and most famous naturalist, made the Park his home during the 1930's when he worked for the Dominion Parks Service. Today, visitors might see a wide variety of animals including elk, moose, deer, black bear, wolf, beaver, otter and squirrels, as well as a wide variety of birds.
